CCL CALLS FOR
PEACEFUL ELECTIONS |
Christian Council of Lesotho (CCL) has called for peace and
stability in the country during and after the forthcoming
elections for the enhancement of development.
During the prayer service for the upcoming general elections
at the event held in Maseru on Thursday, 25th January,
political leaders have been urged to join forces and work
together in maintaining peace for the development of the
country.
The event, which was held for different political leaders,
was organized by the Christian Council of Lesotho (CCL) with
the aim to pray for political leadership.
Arch-Bishop Bernard Mohlalisi of the Roman Catholic Church
said the church believes that putting God first in national
issues will ensure the success anticipated by the public.
He said it is every leader's responsibility to maintain and
fight for peace and stability in the country adding that it
is high time for the political leaders to put aside their
differences and disagreements to avoid riots.
Reverent Rapelang Mokhahlane of the Lesotho Evangelical
Church urged all political parties to put peace and
stability on top of their agenda. He asserted that if peace
prevails, investors will come and creation of jobs will
increase hence poverty reduction and HIV/AIDS infections
will decrease.
This event was the last in a series of prayer services for
elections held by CCL. The first one was held for ministers
of different churches while the second was for Christians.
It was attended by among others, the leaders of the Lesotho
Congress for Democracy, Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili, New Lesotho
Freedom Party, Mrs. 'Manapo Majara, National Independent
Party, Mr. Anthony Manyeli, IEC Commissioner and staff as
well as diplomatic missions.
The service was officiated by Arch-Bishop Mohlalisi, Rev.
Mokhahlane, Rev. Mojaki Kometsi and Vicar-General Phillip
Mokuku.
