VODACOM LES. ASSISTS VICTIMS OF STRONG WIND

-- Vodacom Lesotho has presented a cheque worth M69,800.00 to the office of the District Administrator (DA) in Maseru at Makoanyane Primary School on Tuesday.

The money is the dividends of the fun walk, which was organised by Vodacom Lesotho on March 26.

The Vodacom Lesotho's Cooperate Sales Manager Mr Malefane Monnapula said the assistance is part of the company's contribution to the social and economic upliftment of the communities in which they operate.

He further said they will remain committed to help communities and will play an important role in coordinating the local communities and organisations to improve the quality of the lives of people who are in need of help.

When receiving the cheque on behalf of the DA's office a member of Parliament for Lithabaneng constituency Dr Mothoheloa Phooko thanked Vodacom Lesotho and assured them that the money will be used for the benefit of the people who are victims of heavy storms (tornado), which struck various areas in Maseru district and blew off most of the roofs and brought down some houses at Lithabaneng in September last year.

He added that the assistance will start with the victims who are most vulnerable.

He appealed to the communities to find means of assisting each other when disasters like these one of strong winds hit and avoid dependency on donations adding that they should adhere to disasters of any form in their areas before they could seek for help to the Disaster Management Authority office or the government.

Speaking at the same occasion the Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Mr Ramootsi Lehata called on Basotho to cooperate in the fight against disasters since lack of unity hinders development.

He pledged to assist the victims of the storm saying communities should consider cooperation as a lasting resolution to their problems.
