UNICEF TO EMPOWER YOUNG WOMEN THRU SOCCER
Maseru, June 20 - The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) will embark on a life skills project in collaboration with Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) which will kick start next month.

In an interview, LEFA Chief Executive Officer Mr. Kholoang Mokalanyane said the deal between the two organisations will see UNICEF inject money estimated at M230 00.00 to LEFA.

He pointed out that this money will be used to train district coaches who will in turn organise women's soccer tournaments throughout the country where young women will be taught life skills and HIV/AIDS.

Mr. Mokalanyane said UNICEF's gesture has come at the right time when LEFA is trying to improve women's football in the country while on the other hand it is looking at their welfare.

He pointed out that the project is focusing on women at this initial stage simply because they (women) are the most vulnerable to HIV/AIDS.

This will be the first time UNICEF and LEFA engage on a project of this nature. LENA
