Maseru, May 24 - The Minister of Education and Training (MOET) Mr. Mohlabi
Tsekoa says students from different Primary and High Schools as well as
Tertiary Institutes in the country have contributed a lot towards the
success of Education For All (EFA) Week.
In his address to the students that were involved in the Education
Exhibitions during the EFA Week that started on Monday this week at the
Lesotho National Convention Centre (LNCC) on Wednesday, Mr. Tsekoa expressed
his gratitude to the students who travelled long distances as a way to
support the efforts made by the Ministry of Education by sensitizing the
nation about the EFA Week.
The Minister said the presence of the students gives his Ministry
encouragement and hope as he is aware that youth are engaged in educational
activities in high numbers.
He assured the students that the EFA Week will be celebrated yearly and
there will be a theme set each year it is celebrated.
When delivering a speech on behalf of the tertiary institutes’ students, Mr
Sam Letima of the Lesotho College of Education (LCE) in Thaba Tseka said he
considers the extension of LCE to other districts as a challenge to other
tertiary institutions as this will enable the Lesotho students to further
their studies.
He said vocational institutions such as the Lerotholi Polytechnic are not
enough to cater for the fast growing nation that needs to be empowered with
skills.
At the same occasion, the Assistant Minister of Education and Training Mrs 'Malijane
Maqelepo presented trophies to winners who competed in traditional dances,
traditional food exhibitions, and handicrafts work.
Lerotholi Polytechnic won the first prize on metal work and handicrafts work
and got M5000, Thaba Tseka came in second and obtained M1800 as major prizes
plus trophies.
