Thirty Percent Get ARV Therapy

The health sector has been able to roll out HIV/AIDS anti retroviral therapy (ART) to an estimated 30 percent of those who needed the treatment in 2005.

The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Motloheloa Phooko said despite the limited resources the Ministry had,  with the support of partners, also been able to open 24 ART Clinics and 18 Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTC) sites countrywide.

The launching of the Know Your Status campaign was also a bold step that the government undertook to strengthen prevention and access to other HIV/AIDS interventions. This was thus a conducive environment to increase performance and service delivery, Dr Phooko said.

Dr Phooko was speaking at the officially opening of four days of an annual joint review meeting of the Ministry on February 14.
