Penetration of the country by cellular phone is increasing. One of the two cellular phone network and service providers in the country, Econet Ezi-Cel, has put up five base stations in Leribe, Berea, Mafeteng and Mohale’s Hoek. They were built at Pitseng, Lekokoaneng, Maqhaka, Thuathe, Motsekuoa and Tsoloane. The base stations were made possible by cooperation with the Lesotho Electricity Corporation (LEC) as in some areas there had been no electricity, according to director of Econet Ezi Cel Lesotho, Mr. Elvis Gwanzura, stressing the importance of cooperation for future activities. The official launch of the stations was done by the Minister of Communication, Science and Technology, Mr. Motsoahae Thomas Thabane at Pitseng on February 24. 27 February 2006 |
