May 24 - A police officer told the
High Court on Tuesday that one of the accused in a case of murder, robbery
and malicious damage of property, pointed out firearms and ammunition that
were stolen from the Mafeteng Police Station, on September 23, 1998. Senior Inspector Mathaha Mathaha was testifying, in a case in which eight soldiers and a policeman stand trial, where he indicated that, Antipase Selomo took him to a military camp at Mount Moorosi in Quthing, where he pointed out to him an M65 rifle, in the presence of the camp's officer in charge, Warrant Officer Phafoli. Mathaha said subsequent to that, Selomo who was now with Private Thabiso Monyaka, led him to Quthing Police Station where he pointed out an AK 47 rifle whose custodian was a deceased police officer, Trooper Moshoeshoe. He explained that, the AK 47 rifle had three magazines, and 61 rounds of ammunition, while the M65 had one magazine and 26 rounds of ammunition. Mathaha's evidence was corroborated by that of Moeti Edward Nts'oeu, who said he saw the M65 and the AK 47 rifles in the Roads Improvement Unit's vehicle that was driven by Selomo. He said Malefane Thamae who was with them, said they took the rifles from the Mafeteng Police Station.
