Maseru May 31 - Road safety
educational campaigns require the involvement of all road users to ensure
that road accidents are reduced in the country, the Principal Road Safety
Engineer has warned. Addressing road safety stakeholders’ evaluation meeting that was held at Lesotho sun in Maseru on Wednesday, Mr. Steve Molefe said evaluation is significant to improve future campaigns and promote educational road safety throughout the country. He appealed to all road users to observe the Road Traffic Act not only during campaigns, but at all times in order to prevent road accidents which usually occur as a result of reckless driving. One of the stakeholders Mr. Motlomelo Motlomelo congratulated the Road Safety Department for the initiative it has taken to ensure that all road users are sensitised on the importance of duly sharing the road. He added that the campaigns have really made a change in reducing road accidents in the country and encouraged the Department to continue. Statistics from the Road Safety Department show that although road accidents and fatalities increased from 192 to 225 during this campaign as compared to last year, the death rate on pedestrians was also reduced from 75 to 70 percent. |
