Famously dry and desert like Mafeteng is about to be overtaken by the Mohale’s Hoek district in notoriety in fighting over ownership of grazing lands. Three people died and five were injured as fighting broke out between resident of Mohalinyane and Qhalasi on January 28. 

Police investigations of the cause of the fight show that the impounding of livestock belonging to villagers of Lefikeng in Mohalinyane by Qhalasi villagers at Thoteng, an area over which both claim grazing rights, according to Sergeant Tello Mosuhli of the Mohale’s Hoek CID.

Twenty six people from Qhalasi have been arrested in connection with the incident and will appear in court charged with public violence, he said.
