POLITICAL
ALLIANCE FORMALISED |
The much
bandied about Alliance of Congress Parties (ACP) has
formally come into existence with the signing on Monday of
the memorandum of understanding entered into by the three
parties forming it.
The leaders of the Lesotho People's Congress, Mr Kelebone
Maope, the Basutoland African Congress Dr Khauhelo
Raditapole, and leader of a faction of the Basutuland
Congress Party Mr Ntsukunyane Mphanya, signed the memorandum
on behalf of the parties at an occasion held at Maseru
Club, committing themselves to advancing the ideals of the
Alliance.
Mr Maope
announced that the parties will contest the 2007 general
elections under the banner of ACP, and with a common
electoral symbol. He stated that the Alliance will for the
time being remain under and
interim governing council made up of joint leadership of
each member party, until such time that its constitution has
been drafted, which will then provide for appointment of an
executive committee.
Mr Maope pointed out that the political grouping appreciates
that the three parties share the same vision, principles and
common purpose of the founding Lekhotla La Mahatammho, which
was epitomized by zealousness in the fight against
colonialism and neo-colonialism, geared towards
political and social emancipation of Basotho for a
sustainable future.
