POLICE OFFICER JAILED FOR ARMED ROBBERY
  Maseru, June 27 - A former police officer was sentenced to three years imprisonment without an option of a fine, after he was found guilty of armed robbery by the Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

Evidence in court showed that, Holomo Kane robbed C-River factory at the Industrial Area, of M9, 690.00 at gunpoint on June 1, last year.

When he delivered sentence, the magistrate Mr Thuloane Ntlhakana, said the evidence implicated the accused person although he did not plead guilty to the charge.

He indicated that, the sentence would cover a period that the accused has already spent in custody of the Maseru Central Prison.

During his defence testimony, Kane denied to have committed the offence with which he was charged.

He stated that on the day in question, he was at his home at Ha Ntjabane in Teyateyaneng and that he went to Maseru to consult his doctor as he was ill.

The case was prosecuted by Mr Khabane Ntsamai, while Advocate Khoete Metsing, legally represented the accused.
