Police have recovered part of the over M178,
000 in cheques that went missing from the accounts section of the Ministry
of Local Government on December 5 last year.
A Naleli, Maseru couple has been arrested a after being found in possession
of four of the cheques, worth M13, 000.45. The four cheques are part of the
38 that went missing from the Ministry of Local Government.
Lesotho Mounted Police Services public relations officer Sergeant Pheello
Mphana announced that the couple, Thapelo and 'Maphello Mpobole were
arrested at a road block at Mazenod on January 20 in possession of a
passport suspected to have been stolen, two cheques payable to LEO PTY (Ltd)
and another which was payment to the Lakeside Hotel.
Another two cheques, to CBS (M4, 711.05 ) and
to Supa Tech Business Solutions (M2, 580.00), were found at the couple’s
home. A government Pay Advice pack and a CGM factory cheque leaf were also
confiscated.
They appeared before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court of January 23 and were
unable to pay the requisite M600 bail each, Sergeant Mphana said.
