Maseru, June 21 - The
Government Secretary (GS), Mr. Tlohang Sekhamane says the public service is
under pressure to work hard to deliver quality services. Speaking at a one-day introspection seminar at ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre on Wednesday, preceeding the Public Service Day to be celebrated on Friday, Mr Sekhamane said the people are able to voice out their needs over the media, and that public service has been responsive to the public needs. Mr. Sekhamane said the public has access to many services such as water, electricity, phones and others, although as of now, these services are still expensive.. He added that all things taken into account, the public service is doing fairly well, however indicated that there are some concerns such as officers not being clear with the Vision 2020 issue, their ministries' missions, the Codes of Conduct, and their roles and responsibilities. The GS reiterated on the importance of professionalism, urging public servants to act professionally, by showing integrity and impartiality, and added that there should also be responsiveness in the public service sector. He showed that Lesotho has had political stability, especially after the 2002 general elections, saying it would have been difficult for the public sector to operate properly if there was no stability. The seminar was held in prior to the public service day which will be held at Setsoto stadium on Friday this week. This would be the second year that the celebration is held in Lesotho. |
