PM CALLS FOR PEACE

-- Prime Minister Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili has called for peace and stability in the country in order to enhance development.

Speaking at the public gathering held at Matsieng Pitso ground on Friday, Mr. Mosisili said instability that last for more than 30 years since independence resulted in rampant crime, theft and lawlessness.

He urged all the leadership in the country to join forces and work together for the development of the country.

'Even if I could die and leave peace prevailing in the country, I will rest peacefully knowing that every Mosotho is peaceful,' he commented.

On the other hand, Prime Minister pledged to reinstate the M150 payment of the First and Second World Wars Veterans which was phased out when the Old age Pension was introduced.

'Now that we know how many of the elderly are on the pension list, we have considered restoring the war veterans' pensions, especially since they look after orphans', he added.

He said in the history of Lesotho, there has never been a time like this when orphans are so many.

Prime Minister attributed the high number of orphans to high rate of deaths of young married couples due to HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Mr. Mosisili therefore appealed to married couples to go for testing in order to know their status, adding that if they know their status, they will know how to deal with HIV or how to avoid being infected if they are not yet infected.
