PRINCIPAL CHIEF OF LERIBE SWORN IN AS SENATOR
Maseru June 06 - The Principal Chief of Leribe Chief Joel Andrew Mots'oene, was sworn in as a new Senator in the Senate on Tuesday.

The swearing-in follows his introduction to the Leribe community last month.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President of the Senate Chief Sempe Lejaha urged Chief Mots'oene to perform his duties in accordance with the Constitution of Lesotho and Chieftainship Act of 1968.

He said chiefs are the servants of God who are entrusted to lead the public and serve them without any discrimination.

Chief Lejaha advised the new Senator not to engage in activities that could destroy the image of chieftainship, such as accepting bribery and taking alcoholic drinks.

Taking the oath, chief Mots'oene said he will duly support the King and his government as well as to serve the public.

When welcoming Chief Mots'oene, the Principal Chiefs of Phamong, Ha Maama and Tajane urged the new Senator to put his trust in God.

Chief Joel Mots'oene succeeds Chieftainess 'Mamosa Mots'oene who died early this year after short illness.

He was born on April 12 in 1974 in Leribe and he is the second son of the late chief Bolokoe Mots'oene and chieftainess 'Mamolapo Mots'oene. Before this appointment, he served as a military officer.
