NKHAHLE SWORN-IN AS IEC COMMISSIONER
  A new member of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Mr. Malefetsane Nkhahle was sworn in by Chief Justice Mahapela Lehohla at the Royal Palace in Maseru on Monday.

Taking an oath of allegiance and as a member of IEC, Mr. Nkhahle committed himself to performing his duties in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Lesotho.

He said that he will also be faithful to King Letsie III and his government for the benefit of the nation.

In an interview after the swearing, the new Commissioner said his appointment comes at a crucial time when IEC will be preparing for next year’s general elections

He committed himself to work with other stakeholders in sensitizing the public on voter education in order to improve their knowledge on the importance of casting their votes during elections.

The new commissioner succeeds Mr. Mokhele Likate whose contract ended in April this year.

Mr. Nkhahle has twenty years of service as a public officer. He amongst others, worked as a Principal Secretary for seven years, a Town Clerk and also as the Chief Executive Officer of Maseru City Council.

In 1993 he actively participated in the preparation of the National Assembly Elections through the Elections Advisory Committee. He also served as the Executive Secretary of the Interim Political Authority (IPA) which ushered in the holding of the 2002 national assembly elections.

Before his appointment to IEC, he was the Director of Media Institute of Southern Africa-Lesotho.
