Coalition on the rights of a child (NGOC) and other stakeholders including
the government are currently developing National Action Plan (NAP) to
address issues on the rights of children. In an interview the Executive Director of NGOC, Mrs. Phomolo Mohapeloa, said the National Action Plan is intended to put into place, the policies and programmes that will focus on the rights of a child. She said the plan will also focus on the forms of child labour and how to raise awareness on exploitative child labour. Mrs. Mohapeloa indicated that this initiative is through a project called 'Sisters Project' which funds amongst others projects that deal with the reduction of Exploitative Child Labour in Southern Africa (RECLISA), covering five Southern African countries, of which Lesotho is one of them. She stated that the project aims to protect children against exploitative labour and also advocates for education for all, with special focus on herdboys. Participants she said, will be drawn from the National University of Lesotho (NUL) Representatives, Consultants, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO's), Ministry of Education, department of Labour and Social Welfare as well as the American Institute for Research (AIR). |
