NES WILL HOLD SERIES OF W/SHOPS FOR HERDBOYS
Maseru, June 19 - The Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Culture through the Department of Environment will hold a series of workshops for herdboys in the Maseru district starting from June 28.

In an interview with LENA, the NES Environment Officer, Mrs 'Matseliso Moremoremolo said the workshops are aimed at creating herders' awareness on range management and protection to improve and sustain bio-diversity.

Mrs Moremoholo said the workshops, which will focus on the importance of rangelands and factors that could adversely affect the quality of the rangelands such as fire and over grazing, will also provide herders with skills on the appropriate utilization and management of the rangelands.

She said the training will enable the herders to adopt best range management practices and be able to safeguard their rangelands with better understanding for their importance not only for the grazing purpose but also for the sustainability of other biological resources that are found in them.

During the workshop, herders will be encouraged to establish their own associations so that they could be easily trained and provided with skills in management of the rangelands.

After the workshops, herders will be expected to work with rural communities to ensure protection of rangelands.

Expected herders will be from Mazenod and Manonyane areas. LENA
