MIN. OF SPORTS QUESTIONS SELECTION CRITERIA OF ATHLETES
Maseru, June 21 - The Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation has questioned the selection criteria of athletes in the 81-member delegation which will be representing Lesotho in the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA) Zone Six Youth championships to be hosted in Windhoek, Namibia starting on Monday to July 05.

Bidding the delegation farewell at the function held at Bambatha Ts'ita Sports Arena on Wednesday evening, Mrs. 'Mathabiso Lepono lamented that the Maseru district was over-represented while other districts were not represented at all.

She urged the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) to take this as a challenge in future and go out to scout for deserving athletes throughout the country and not focus on urban areas alone.

The Minister of Sports also expressed concern over age cheating which she said ought to stop as a matter of urgency, and therefore called on such players and officials who are perpetrating it to immediately bring it to a halt as the country will be expelled from the Games as per rules and regulations of the tournament.

Mrs. Lepono said any sport code that could be found guilty of such practice, will be held liable to funds spent on such teams going to Namibia.

In conclusion, she wished the team well and urged the athletes to try by all means to bring glory home and not to misbehave so as to avoid tarnishing the image of the country.

The team is expected to be back in the country on July 07.
