M4 MILLION EARMARKED FOR BANTU STADIUM CONSTRUCTION
Mafeteng, June 14 – The Minister of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation, Mrs. ‘Mathabiso Lepono says the Government of Lesotho has allocated M4 million for the construction of the playground identified as the former Bantu Football stadium in Mafeteng as the place suitable for construction of a community stadium, as it is huge and open.

Speaking during the inspection of a suitable site for the establishment of the community stadium in the district on Tuesday Mrs. Lepono said when completed, the playground is expected to consist of fitting rooms for players, offices as well as football and athletics pitches.

She said among the three sites that she had seen, she preferred the former Bantu Football Ground because it is closer to all the facilities that are being needed for the establishment of the community stadium, such as electricity, water and shopping centres.

Mrs. Lepono further advised all the stakeholders to complete their preparation as soon as possible.

Speaking at the same occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Home Affairs and Public Safety, Mr. Lesao Lehohla said it is high time for all government ministries to involve land management stakeholders on developmental issues, to avoid misuse of public funds.

He encouraged members of the district council and officers of the Land Survey and Physical Planning (LSPP) to discuss the matter, as lack of planning hinders progress of every developmental activity in the country.

He said the government of Lesotho used to spend money for construction of statues, which were found not suitable for the activities meant for, as they were constructed without consultations with stakeholders, such as LSPP.

Present at the occasion were officials from the Ministry of Gender, Mafeteng District Administrator and a team of four people from Lesotho Football Association (LEFA).
