M16 MILLION SET ASIDE FOR DAMAGED ROADS RECONSTRUCTION

Maseru May 29 - The government through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning has allocated funds to a tune of M16 million for maintenance of roads and bridges that were damaged by heavy rains that fell earlier this year in the country, the Minister of Public Works and Transport Mr. Popane Lebesa has revealed.

In a statement he delivered on Monday in the National Assembly on damaged roads and bridges, Minister Lebesa said the work will be done by the local contractors under the supervision of the Lesotho Emergency Infrastructure Consortium, adding that maintenance will soon start.

He said there has been a delay in maintaining damaged infrastructure as the Ministry had to undertake a survey and make estimates on the costs of damages that had occurred at different parts of the country.

Mr. Lebesa mentioned that roads to be maintained will include those of Ha Mabote, Lithabaneng, Qoaling, Sea-point and Pitseng while construction of bridges and culverts will be done at Qhoali, Ha Ramats'eliso, Ha Matlali, Rasemane, Ha Mojaki, Takalatsa and Ha Motloheloa.

The Minister also apologized for the inconvenience which this has caused.
