LESOTHO TO
TACKLE CLIMATE CHANGE |
MASERU-- Lesotho will benefit from a fund to help
African countries deal with the problems of climate
change. This follows a decision at the just-ended World
Climate Change Conference held in Nairobi, Kenya. The money
will come from Least Developed Countries Fund initiated
under the auspices of UN Framework Convention on Climate
Change (UNFCC). It should go towards helping the country
reduce
the toxic emissions that cause global warming. Director of
the Lesotho Meteorological Services (LMS), Mr Ts'eliso
Sekoli, said Lesotho has since submitted 11 project
proposals to the Fund. Out of these three major areas of
concern will be chosen after wide-ranging consultations with
different players. And in a separate development the Lesotho
Meteorological Services (LMS) is studying the status of
toxic gas emissions into the environment.
The main
greenhouse gas Lesotho generates is carbon dioxide produced
in homes and factories.
