Lesotho shall host the
Inaugural Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA)
regional U-17 games scheduled to start on October 01-08 this year. In an interview with Lesotho News Agency (LENA), Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) Spokesperson Mr. Manyathela Kheleli said to facilitate preparation of these games, the Government has given his committee the go ahead to prepare for hosting this 'Mini Olympic' Games. He said that they are currently busy drafting rules and regulations, adding the ANOCA five- member executive committee is currently in the country with the purpose of inspecting the venues and meeting with the relevant stakeholders from the government. Mr. Kheleli said the purpose of the games among others is to improve the level of competition in Zone VI, provide an opportunity for the selected sports and to identify talent as well. He said the venues earmarked for the Games are Lehakoe, Setsoto Stadium, National Tennis courts and Lesotho College of Education. According to Mr Kheleli the African teams will compete in Athletics, Boxing, Football, Lawn Tennis and Taekwondo. Lesotho has been allocated M2.4 million to prepare for this Games by the Confederation of Southern African National Olympic Committee (COSANOC). |
