Keketso Lekota, accused of robbery and murder, has told the High Court so
many lies that he has begun contradicting himself, according to Prosecutor
Mr. Peter Lenono.
Twenty
year old Keketso Lekota accused of the murder of a German tourist at
Malealea in the Mafeteng district last year, was told by Mr. Lenono that he
was fabricating stories in his reasons for taking a trip to Malealea.
Cross-examining Lekota in the High Court on February 9, the prosecutor said
Lekota initially told the court through his lawyer, Advocate Hae Phoofolo,
that he was going to collect money owed from Tlali Lebitsa. In his defence
evidence in chief, however, the accused said he was going to collect high
school text books from Lebitsa, an after thought.
Although it was true that Lebitsa owed him some money, on March 17, 2004, he
was going to collect books that Lebitsa had borrowed from him, Lekota said.
He had told his lawyer some of the reasons under which he took the trip,
hoping to mention some of them, in his defence evidence in chief, Lekota
said.
Lekota is charged with a murder of Sabastian Horsten, at Litšokeleng,
Malealea, on March 17, 2004.
The accused is also charged with armed robbery, and contravention of the
Internal Security Act number 17 of 1996.
The case, before Justice Semapo Peete, is continuing.
