LEBESA LAUNCHES ROADS LEADING TO NEW PARLIAMENT BUILDING

Maseru June 08 - The Minister of Public Works and Transport Mr. Popane Lebesa launched the construction of access roads to the site where the new Parliament of Lesotho will be built.

Speaking at the ceremony just beyond Lesotho Sun on Thursday, the Minister said the roads are built to access among others, the top of Mpilo Hill and also to reduce traffic along Kingsway to other areas of Maseru City.

He said once the roads have been completed in October this year, the Parliament will also be built at the top of the Mpilo hill, adding that the area will become a tourist attraction because of the beautiful scenery it offers.

Mr. Lebesa pointed out that the construction project has been funded by the Lesotho Government and the Government of the People's Republic of China to a tune of M9.8 million.

Speaking at the same occasion a Member of Parliament for Motimposo Constituency Mr. Ramatla 'Makong said the construction of the roads will serve as a relief for motorists to access other parts of town.

He lauded the Government for the initiative it took to construct the new Parliament as well as the roads leading to it as the project has created some job opportunities for the Basotho people.

A representative of Nthane Brothers, being the contractor for the construction of the roads Mr. Paul Phatela said the civil works are at an advanced stage since according to the plan, the roads will be tarred in August this year.
