The
Lesotho Public Service Staff Association (LEPSSA) will hold its annual
conference on February 4, 2006, focusing on achievements since its formation
in 2004.
LEPSSA president, Mr S'khulumi Ntsoaole said the Association was launched in
October 2004, seeking to ensure that public officers exercise
professionalism within the public service; to ensure democratization of the
service through just and transparent promotions as well as to negotiate
officers’ salaries with government from time to time.
The forthcoming conference will inform members of some of the successes,
which include their securing a bank account with Nedbank Lesotho and a
deduction code from the Treasury Department which enabled members' monthly
subscriptions.
They will also discuss constraints such as the ever present threats from
some high ranking government officials who claim the Association is illegal,
thus victimising those who join it.
The Association will also negotiate for provision of affordable loan
schemes, provision of affordable group funeral schemes and also fight
against unjust laws, policies and regulations.
