The Lesotho Network of People Living With HIV/AIDS (LENEPWHA) is currently discussing a draft document of guidelines to be followed in the establishment of Support Groups of People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWA). In an interview last Thursday, LENEPWHA’s Management and Organizational Development Advisor Mr. Teboho Mohlabi said the guidelines are aimed at directing PLWA on the proper ways to be followed when establishing support groups and how such organizations can be maintained for effectiveness. The LENEPWHA National Coordinator Mr. Bakoena Chele pointed out that there is a need for PLWA and those affected by the pandemic to base themselves with the guidelines when establishing support groups at grassroot level. 'The guidelines have been developed to enable PLWA in various areas to address their problems without depending on the Network at national level, he elaborated. Mr. Chele stated that one of the primary mandates of LENEPLWA is to ensure that its members are able to participate in issues that concern them from decision making to the implementation process hence their motto 'nothing about us, without us.' The National Coordinator further said since it was launched in May last year, the network has established over 50 support groups nationwide and the number is still growing very fast. |
