LESOTHO BANK CONCERNED ABOUT FRAUD
Maseru June 15 - The management of Lesotho Bank has decided to close the auto bank machine services at the Industrial Branch in Maseru between 6:00pm and 6:00am with effect from Thursday June 15.

The Marketing Manager Mrs. Nontuthuzelo Mda said this at a session to brief media personnel on the fraudulent activities that affected eight customers at the branch from June 03, 04 to 05.

Mrs. Mda stated that these customers arrived at the bank to collect their ATM cards which they reported to have been snatched by the machine on the dates in question, but could not be found in the bank.

She said the disappearance of the cards showed that fraudulent activities had occurred, as the customers’ money had also been withdrawn.

''The bank suspects that there were some fraudsters who cheated these customers,'' she said.

She further said the bank will notify customers about alternative auto bank machines they can use to withdraw money when the machine in question is temporarily out of service.

Mrs. Mda added that the management has also decided to put in place, a dedicated telephone line which customers could phone when they need assistance with their ATM cards in order to avoid fraudulent incidents from further taking place.

The Marketing Manager pointed out that those customers will be reimbursed.

No arrested have so far been made and customers are urged to be responsible with their cards to prevent incidents of this nature.
