King Letsie III has presented cash
prizes worth M40 000.00 to winners of the horse race event in commemoration
of his 43rd birthday held at Mohale’s hoek racecourse last Sunday. Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony, the King commended Lesotho Brewing Company (LBC), the Ministry of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation, Mohale’s hoek community and horse owners for their support and participation at this annual event intended to commemorate his birthday. He expressed hope that through their support, the horse racing, a sport liked by many Basotho will improve. The King Letsie III congratulated winners and encouraged all the horse owners to continue participating in horse racing not only in the yearly Kings’s Birthday horse race held in Mohales’hoek, but also in other horce races such as those held in Mafeteng and Leribe, saying to do so will help improve the sport in the country. The horses were competing in the following five races; the1200m maiden plate, the 1400m long bottom Division, 1000m long King’s birthday top division, Mare and fillies 1000m race and the 1600 long Maluti Mountain Brewery (MMB) farewell The winner for the main race, King’s birthday top division received M9 000.00 while first prize for bottom division was M3 500.00 and M2 500.00 for winners of maiden plate, mare and fillies and MMB farewell division race. Speaking in the same occasion the representative of the main sponsor, the Lesotho Brewing Company (LBC), Mr. Ntahli Matete said the event is meant to wish the King joyous life. He pledged the company’s further support to the event and said he also appreciates the support from the Ministry of Sports in all these years.. In an interview with Lesotho News Agency (LENA), one of the horse owners, Mr. Ts’eliso Lephole who scooped the first prizes in maiden plate, fillies and mere and King’s birthday top divisions appealed to the government through the Ministry of Sports to increase sponsorship for the race. He appealed to the government to built stables at the Mohale’s Hoek race-course where the horses will be kept while training for the race. |
