Maseru, June 11 - King Letsie III has called for calm and peace, saying peace and tranquility should be protected at all costs.

Passing condolences to the family of Sekhonyana at the funeral services held at Machabeng College on Sunday, King Letsie III said though they are saddened by Chief Sekhonyana's killing, peace should be maintained.

Furthermore, the King praised Chief Sekhonyana as a peace-loving and hard-working statesman who served the country well both as a politician and an MP.

He stated that he has personally lost a father figure and as much as he urged Chief Sekhonyana's children to accept their father's death, he (King) too needed to be consoled.

Speaking at the same occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Lesao Lehohla appealed to Lesotho Mounted Police Services (LMPS), Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) and National Security Services (NSS) to work tirelessly to apprehend the killers of Chief Sekhonyana as that would be enough to console the bereaved family.

Mr. Lehohla said as government, they will leave no stone unturned in search of illegal firearms and to disband private armies which continue to kill innocent people in the country.

He called on Basotho in general to join hands in tracing illegal firearms which are in the hands of criminals.

Other speakers included Speaker of the National Assembly Ms. Ntlhoi Motsamai, Principal Chief of Matsieng Chief Masupha Seeiso, who all condemned Sekhonyana's killing and said the killers ought to be booked as compensation to the bereaved family and friends.

Chief Sekhonyana was assassinated outside his gate on June 02 by unknown assailants armed with AK47, 9mm and 7.65 mm weapons, and 18 shells were found at the scene of crime.

He is survived by his mother, wife and six children.
