Maseru, June 13 - The Lesotho
Association of Non-Formal Education (LANFE) through its Reducing Exploitive
Child Labour in Southern Africa (RECLISA) project, has organized a two-week
refresher course on literacy for people who have volunteered to offer basic
literacy skills to children who are unable to go to school. The refresher course will be held at LANFE's premises from June 19 to 30. In an interview, LANFE's Project Officer Mr. Remaketse Letsie said at least 40 instructors from three districts of Mohale's Hoek, Mokhotlong as well as Quthing where the project operates will be refreshed on what they have learned from the previous trainings and discuss their achievements as well as challenges they encounter. He mentioned that the course is also meant to strengthen the instructors' educational skills that would enable them to properly teach the children as well as to remind them of their commitment in children's education. He further stated that during the training, the instructors' work and progress in the implementation of RECLISA project will be reviewed. He added that since the instructors obtained training last year, they are able to provide children who are unable to attend school such as herdboys and domestic workers with education in literacy, numeracy and vocational skills. The RECLISA project aims at poverty alleviation by introducing Non-Formal Education (NFE). It focuses on creating awareness to the learners about their basic rights such as the right to education. It was established last year, in response to a concern over high rate of children who are denied the right to education in the country, by working as herdboys and domestic workers and it will run for four years. |
