High Court' Hands Full of Lower Court Cases

The High Court had to step in on February 21 to adjudicate over cases from the lower court, following the current industrial action by magistrates. Inmates awaiting trial had to appear before the High Court for remand hearings

The magistrates started the industrial action last week complaining about among other things, insufficient security and remuneration.

They argue that the unavailability of housing for magistrates results in their mixing with the public at all times including those that they have just convicted, which they consider risky.
