Faulty Doors, Cash Falls Out of Security Company Van

A cash box containing over M400 000 that fell off a Fidelity Security Company van at Ha Ramokoatsi in the Mafeteng district has left three men in police custody.

Picked up by herd boys after it fell of the back of the security van, the cashbox went unnoticed by the Fidelity guards until at Motsekuoa where they were told by another motorist that the back door was open.

Standard Bank customer consultant Mr. Ramoholi Ramoholi said after the bank’s headquarters was informed about the loss, the matter was reported to the Mafeteng police who began investigations.

The three have been arrested after police recovered the cash box from one of them. Of the M438, 000.00 originally in the cash box, only M244, 696.00 was recovered, Mr. Ramoholi said.

It later emerged that the security van’s door mechanism had been faulty and that the security officers may not have seen the open door because of “the heavy mist and rain that day.”
