| DCEO EDUCATES PRINCIPAL SECRETARIES ON CORRUPTION | |

The Directorate on Corruption and
Economic Offenses (DCEO) in collaboration with the Office of the Director of
Public Prosecutions (DPP) held a one day workshop for the Principal
Secretaries at Maseru Sun on Thursday. In an interview, the DCEO Director of Public Education Mr Litelu Ramokhoro said the objective of the workshop was to introduce DCEO to the Principal Secretaries in terms of its operational structure as per its core mandate. He said the other objective of the workshop was to accord the Principal Secretaries the opportunity to share with them some practical experiences that the Directorate has had in its day to day work in the fight against corruption. He indicated that up until now, DCEO has received lots of reports and dealt with a number of cases, many of which have been put before the courts of law, with a few having been convicted already. He stated that meeting the Principal Secretaries at this time, is to equip them with some practical means and ways of tightening up controls as a preventative measure against the occurrence of corruption and most importantly as a mechanism for detecting its occurrence timeously. He pointed that the participants were equipped with skills on topics that included Lesotho and the Fight against corruption:Focus on the work of the DCEO since 2003, Fighting corruption in the Public Sector: A Legal Perspective and Corruption: the Conceptual Framework. Mr Ramokhoro mentioned after this workshop, participants will have a common understanding on the concept of corruption as it occurs in the public sector in its various dimensions. |
