Berea --A 40 year old Ts'epo Sutha of Ha Lerotholi in Berea was buried at Thaba-Chitja on Thursday, through the assistance of the office of the District Administrator, after he was abandoned by the relatives, including his biological father. When passing condolences, the District Administrator, Mrs Butleng Sekake Ntoampe appealed to the community to join burial societies in the villages, with the pension funds provided by the government to the elderly, as her office does not budget for abandoned or unknown people only. She said it is embarrassing to find that people do not help in such cases, or to support and care for the needy in the villages. The father of the deceased, Mr Malefetsane Sutha (71), said he couldn't afford to bury his son because he (son) dropped out from the family many yeas ago and changed his surname. The Chief of Thaba-Chitja, Chief Phakiso Khoabane said the deceased immigrated to his village some years ago, but it was dissapointing when his father refused to take responsibility to bury him. He claimed that his people were willing to help the family, but could not proceed due to the attitude of the deceased's family. The deceased, who was cared for by the Thaba-Chitja support group, was found dead by his neigbour on Sunday morning. The office of the District Administrator funded the funeral with M600, 00 that bought a coffin. The deceased was buried with a consent of his father, though he decided not to be involved in any activity. |
