|
-- In attempt to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS as well as to control drug abuse among school children, Anti-Drug Abuse Association will visit High schools in the three districts of Mafeteng, Mohale's Hoek and Quthing starting from Tuesday this week. The association's chairperson, Mrs Mphonyane Mofokeng said the visits, which will start in the district of Quthing are expected to be completed by May 12. She mentioned that the visits are aimed at identifying focal teachers who will act as mentors and students who will be peer educators, especially for out of school youth. She added that during the visits they will also make plans of introducing their new programme, Substance Abuse and HIV/AIDS, which she said will run in these schools for three successive years, starting this year in a way that would not interfere with the schools' curriculum. Mrs Mofokeng further explained that after the visits they will train peer educators to ensure dissemination of HIV/AIDS information and substance abuse to the youth through trained peer educators. The programme will operate in 19 schools of the said districts. |
