APRM
SENSITIZES THE PUBLIC |
The
Thaba-Tseka community will be sensitized on issues
pertaining to the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) at a
meeting to be held at IEMS in Thaba-Tseka on November 14.
According to the APRM Coordinating Office-Lesotho, the
meeting will focus on a democratic rule, economic
management, private sector and public enterprise management
as well as community development.
The APRM
is an African self-monitoring mechanism, voluntarily acceded
to by member states of the African Union (AU) that
aims at fostering the adoption of policies, standards and
practices that lead to political stability, good governance,
high economic growth, sustainable development and
accelerated regional and continental economic integration
through sharing of experiences and reinforcement of
successful and best practices.
The
Mechanism's mandate is to ensure that the polices and
practices of members states conform to the agreed
political, economic, and corporate governance values, codes
and standards contained in the Declaration of Democracy,
Political, and Economic and Corporate Governance and these
values, codes and standards include, among others,
democracy, good political governance, respect for human
rights, the rule of law and sound economic management.
Meanwhile the Lesotho Government and the APRM Secretariat
based in Pretoria, will sign a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU)
at 'Manthabiseng Convention Center on November 15. The Prime
Minister Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili is expected to sign on
behalf of the Lesotho Government.
