Water Discolouration was not a Health Hazard
The recent long spell of drought necessitated treatment that resulted in a chemical instability turning tap water a yellowish colour, according to the Water and Sewerage Authority's (WASA) production supervisor, Mr. Peter Makoetje.

The yellowish water did not pose any health hazards except for the staining of laundry. WASA defied climatic odds to maintain the highest standards in water quality, Mr. Makoetje said.

According to Mr. Makoetje the recent long spell of drought prompted them to complement the routine chlorine treatment at their treatment works with a sanitizer, to preserve the micro-biological quality of water.

The sanitizer not only sterilised the water but also precipitated algae, which was abundant during the dry months of October, November and December when WASA was forced to abstract water from the Maqalika dam.
