The Vision 2020 Games, a week long inter districts sports tournament, were officially opened by the Minister of Gender and Youth, Sport and Recreation Mrs. 'Mathabiso Lepono at Setsoto stadium on December 12.

The games were opened symbolically with the hoisting of a blue and green flag with ten stars around a Basotho hat. 

The tournament is meant to instill a culture of sportsmanship in order to build a united and peaceful nation through sports and is part of the overall National Vision 2020 goals, according to Minister of Sports and Culture, Mrs. ‘Mathabiso Lepono.

It was an opportunity for them to enjoy themselves without turning to drugs, alcohol and premarital sex.

Director of Sports and Recreation Mrs. Puisano Ts'osane said the games would help nurture raw talent into international material.

'We have been performing poorly in the international arena and we resolved that by going out into the villages we could find a lasting solution by the year 2020,' Mrs. Putsoane said.

Participants will be competing in soccer, volleyball, athletics (100 and 200 metres), paralympics, Moraba-raba and netball.

The games, expected to be an annual affair, are sponsored by the Ministry of Sports, the Lesotho Electricity Corporation (LEC) JHI Real Estate and Fidelity Service Group.
