| Two Qualify for World Youth Championships | |

Four of the team of athletes competing in the Southern Region Youth Athletics Championships during the June 4 weekend had outstanding performances, with two of them winning silver and bronze medals while the other two clocked times that qualified them for the World Youth Championships. Senate Monyake and Nthabeleng Tlali won silver and bronze medals in triple jump and long jump in the tournament, which brought together athletes from 12 Southern African countries. Katiso Tolo and Leeto Hlalele in the male category, clocked 22.09 in 200 metres and 3.58,87 in 1 500 metres respectively to win places in the World Youth Championships. Lesotho Amateur Athletics Association (LAAA) spokesperson Moholi Tsoinyane said the two beat the world qualifying time of 23.10 and 4.03 in 200 metres and 1 500 metres to qualify, although they came out fourth and sixth in their races. 06 June 2005 |
