Soldier Kills Former Military Councilor

Former member of the Military Council that ruled the country from 1986 to 1993, Colonel Khethang Mosoeunyane 62, is reported to have been shot and killed by a current member of the Lesotho defence Force (LDF).

The 38 year-old soldier is in custody helping police with investigations into the case, in which Colonel Mosoeunyane is said to have been shot three times, at his home village of Masoeling on July 14.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. Ntoahae Mahao said the suspect claims to have been trying to prevent the former Military Councillor from raping the soldier’s wife.
Colonel Mosoeunyane sustained bullet wounds on the left arm, under the left breast and on the stomach.

Police found two dead bullets and five 7.65mm shells in the sitting room and bedroom, ACP Mahao said.
