Police officers from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have begun a four week cross border operations course in the Limpopo Province, South Africa. The theoretical course, which started on September 5, will enable participants to execute cross border firearm-related and firearm-destruction operations, reports The Citizen, a South African daily newspaper. On completion, they will do their practical training during the Operation Rachel exercise to take place in Mozambique in October. The course is attended by two representatives each from Lesotho, Botswana, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zambia, one from Zimbabwe and nine from South Africa. Authorised by the Southern African Police Chiefs’ Committee, it is also aimed at making sure all member states have a uniform policy and procedures in cross border operations. 07 September 2005 |
