Another Red Cross Project to Help Orphans
The Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS) has set aside M40 000 for the establishment of four poultry rearing projects to benefit orphans and vulnerable children under the Thaba-Bosiu Orphans and Vulnerable Projects in the Maseru district.

The LRCS Project Manager Mr. Lithapelo Kutlanyane says the projects are meant to assist orphans, vulnerable children and patients under home based care.

The projects will be established in four villages of Lenono, Makhoathi, Ntsane and Khoabane and will be managed by the area chiefs in conjunction with care facilitators who have been trained by LRCS to take care of the children.

Since the projects are expected to produce both eggs and meat for consumption, the surplus will be sold to the surrounding schools and local businesses to generate income to meet the daily basic needs of the orphans and vulnerable children such as clothes, food and payment of school fees, Mr. Kutlanyane said.

Each village will be provided with 800 chicks, bought from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, before the end of February.
