Project Introduces ICTs to Schools
 

An agreement to ensure that the country’s youth are conversant with information and communications technologies from secondary school level, the NEPAD e-Schools Demonstration Project, will be signed this Thursday, July 7. 

Minister of Education and Training, Mr. Mohlabi Tsekoa, and Minister of Communications Science and Technology, Mr. Motsoahae Thabane, as Minister responsible for information and communications technologies, will sign the memorandum of understanding on behalf of Lesotho. 

Professor Peter Kinyanjui will sign on behalf the NEPAD-e Africa Commission. 

According to Ministry of Education and Training chief information officer, Mrs. ‘Makopano Semakale, the initiative is aimed at  ensuring  that African youth are able to acquire skills that will enable them to participate effectively in the information  society  on graduation  from primary and secondary schools. It is expected to make a substantial impact on improving education and health on the African Continent. 

The Project is also meant to provide teachers with skills to enable them use ICT tools to enhance teaching and learning, and to provide school managers with ICT skills to facilitate efficient management and administration in the schools. 

Schools selected to pioneer this project are Lesotho High School, Bereng High School   and St. Cyprian’s High School.
