President Mkapa Now a KCMCOL
 

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Mr. Benjamin William Mkapa has been bestowed with the Knight Commander of the Most Courteous Order of Lesotho (KCMCOL) by King Letsie III. 

King Letsie III commended President Mkapa as an outstanding leader and diplomat who will always be remembered for his remarkable initiatives to free Africa from colonialism and apartheid. He has also played a vital role in the fight against poverty in Africa.

During his tenure as Tanzanian President, Mr. Mkapa played a leading role in the South African Developing Countries (SADC), using his knowledge and skills to put Africa on the international map.

The President’s historic visit is an achievement of the Continent’s long goal of unity and solidarity for African countries, King Letsie III said.  

The Tanzanian President announced that he will, in two months time, step down as president. He was therefore using this time to pay farewell visits to close friends of Tanzania.

President Benjamin William Mkapa became the third President of the Republic of
Tanzania in  1995.
