| Population Census in 2006- Dr. Thahane | |
|
Preparations are underway for a national population census to be undertaken
next year, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Dr. Timothy
Thahane has announced. Making the announcement in the National Assembly prior to debate on the financial budget, Dr. Thahane said the population census is crucial in helping determine a country's developmental planning. An example could be its importance in establishing the number of schools to be built as well as teachers needed in such schools. Dr. Thahane said he would soon be making recommendations to the House for the National Manpower Development Secretariat (NMDS) management to be changed as an attempt to improve services at the institution. Computerisation of students' files would also be intensified to avoid inconveniences brought about by disappearing files. On the Lesotho Revenue Authority (LRA), Dr. Thahane announced that new offices would be built in Mohale's Hoek and Leribe as part of efforts to bring services closer to the people. Offices in the other districts would be considered in the future. 03 March 2005 |
