Parliament Reopens
 

The Lesotho Parliament reconvened on September 23 after its winter recess.

In a statement during the opening of this the tenth meeting of the first session of the sixth Parliament of Lesotho, the Speaker, Ms Ntlhoi Motsamai, said future business to be presented before the Business Committee includes the Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2005; the Special Report of the Ombudsman and; the motion on Review of the Design and Colours of the National Flag.

Bills passed and presented for Royal Assent include the Race Relations; Public Service Amendment Act and; the National AIDS Commission Act.

The Speaker asked for cooperation of all involved to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the parliament. She commended Cabinet for regular communication on public matters such as on the Prime Minister's statement on ratification of anomalies in the pension status of married women and on rationalisation of remuneration packages for MPs and holders of other statutory positions.

She said the parliamentary reform programme is still in progress, with some of the sub- committees nearing completion of their tasks. Members of the committee are currently engaged in a public outreach programme, which seeks to collect views from the public.
