A Public Private Partnership Helps Ha Makhate Community

A public private partnership between the Lesotho Brewing Company and German Development Services (DED) takes off in Mohale’s Hoek with the building of a 70m by 3.5m dam at Ha Makhate.

The LBC and DED each pledged M40 000.00 in funding of the dam construction project.

About 700 people from villages of Ha Makhate, Qhalasana, Ha Panta and Qhalasi are to profit from the project with approximately 30 farmers directly benefiting. Work on the project is expected to start in December and take about a year.

LBC Corporate Affairs Director, Mr. Ntahli Matete said this follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding with DED in September where the two jointly identified projects to finance.

The project is estimated to cost M100 000.00, with the remaining M20 000 as contributions from the Government, Non Governmental Organisations and the community, according to District Planning Unit Advisor, Mr. Bernhard Schmidt.
