One Step Closer to Equitable Access
The Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology will oversee the establishment of more than 10 tele-centres in the country, part of a plan of action adopted by the African Union Heads of State Summit last year.

The tele-centres, aimed at enhancing equitable access to information and facilitate communication in the country, will provide Internet, telephones and other modern communication and information services to the public.

The Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Communications Mr Tšeliso 'Mokela, and the Lesotho Telecommunications Authority (LTA) Chief Executive, Mr. Monehela Posholi, made this announcement on their return from the first Africa preparatory meeting for the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Tunis 2005, held recently  in Accra, Ghana.

The centres are initially to be established in post offices at the Pitso Ground in Maseru; Maputsoe; Mapoteng and Mafeteng. Even though funds have not yet been secured, the centres are envisaged to be operational before the end of this year, the two officials said.
