Nigerian Couple Dies in Road Accident

A Nigerian couple and a 60-year-old man were instantly killed in a head-on collision at Tsikoane, in the Leribe district on July 10.

According to police spokesperson Inspector 'M'amolibeli Thiane the couple, estimated to be around 27 and 29, collided with the 60 year-old man's vehicle and overturned.  The Nigerian couple, residing in the South African border town of Ficksburg,  were in a vehicle with their two year old child and a babysitter who survived without any injuries.

The accident happened at the same spot where an hour earlier, a man sustained serious injuries after his vehicle overturned.

Eighty-one accidents have been reported in the Leribe district from January to date with 21 people killed and 60 sustaining serious injuries, Inspector Thiane said.

Inspector Thiane appealed to drivers and public at large to observe road signs to prevent these accidents, the majority of which were caused by negligence.
